PANHARD. Front axle, badly damaged in the Scottish Grand Prix, has been returned to its original geometry and reinforced with a second cross tube to help prevent a recurrence.
FIAT. Axle broken in the Scottish Grand Prix has been re-welded and a hand brake lever has been added. The Fiat is tipped to dominate racing on its home track this weekend.
AUSTRO-DAIMLER. Shattered Sintra bodywork is being replaced with aluminum. The beautiful but flexible home built wood steering wheel has been swapped for a robust welded aluminum wheel. The Austro-Daimler is expected to run without paint at Targa Maria.
GN. New racing colours. Half of the bonnet and the wheels have been painted BRG. GN and Peugeot have swapped wheels. Steering arm on Peugeot broke at the end of the Gordon Bennett and the GN became a donor car to keep the Peugeot running for the rest of the Winter Tests. The wider and heavier former GN front rims (140s) suited the Peugeot front suspension and so they stayed on the car. The spindly 120s off the Peugeot suit the spidery GN. Everybody is happy! The broken steering arm was shortened (both of them). This beneficially quickened the rack and pinion steering. A damper was built from scratch and installed to help control the unsprung mass of the engine and rear axle.
PEUGEOT. Shattered radiator rebuilt and reinforced. Other minor bodywork damage repaired. New belt fitted to the Comet drive. Throttle linkage repaired. As noted above, wheels were swapped with the GN. Trials tires fitted to rear in place of the dirt tires that ran at the Winter Tests.
BLOODY MARY. Tartan upholstery added. Brake re-built (again) in a futile attempt to get some stopping power... With the cancelation of the Coppa Florio, Bloody Mary is not expected to make the trip to Maury Island.
MILLER 122. Bodywork damage from the roll-over at the Winter Trials has been “smoothed out”. New spindles have been fitted. The “old” Miller is ready to soldier on at Targa Maria.
MILLER 91. After a huge push by its builder, the Miller 91 chassis is now complete except for the fuel system. Gas tank is expected to arrive any day. Car will run at Targa Maria with rudimentary bodywork.
MASERATI. As with the Miller, a big push has brought the car very close to running. The Maserati is also waiting for its gas tank to arrive and is expected to run with partial bodywork at Targa Maria.
DE DION BOUTON. Car is now functionally complete and has been test driven, however, the car will not run at Targa Maria. The De Dion will debut at Gittreville in August.
